HGHFI was founded on September 16, 1997 as a Faith-based Ministry and named in honor of Pastor Havious Green of Mich, USA for his humanitarian assistance to the suffering Liberians during our civil crisis.

The Havious Green Humanitarian Foundation INC.; is a locally registered non-profit, non-governmental Christian Development Organization based in the city of Monrovia. HGHFI believes that approaches to development must be of the people. The mission of the organization is to empower communities to undertake their own development initiative to enable the people reach their full potential as human beings created in the image of God.

The civil war in Liberia imposed severe suffering on the estimated 3.5 million inhabitants of the country. Lives and socio-economic services and the nations health, educational, and water/sanitation sectors were massively destroyed. Towns and villages were burned down and thousands of villagers and urban dwellers lost their lives from hunger and diseases. Farming, the major source of income and means of survival for rural dwellers, were abandoned due to insecurity. Farm implements and planning materials including seeds for village farmers were either destroyed or looted by armed fighters.

The civil war and current economic status of the country are the main causes of poverty in Liberia. The prolonged civil war has displaced more than one hundred and fifty thousand persons in Liberia. Over 90% of the population of Liberia lived displaced. Most of them are languishing in IDP Camps in the country. Others have fled into the forests and other parts of Liberia. About 95% of the country is without safe drinking water and electricity. Another cause of poverty in Liberia is the deplorable economic situation in the country.

Most families in and out of the IDP Camps depend on relief assistance for their survival. There are very few industries operating in the country. A third cause of poverty is the inability of the government to adequately distribute available resources to its citizens. The vast majority of the working population is out of employment. Most farmers do not have the tools or capital to restart farming activities. Most farm activities cannot sustain the farmers families.

Against this background Havious Green Humanitarian Foundation was founded to assist our unfortunate brothers and sisters who suffered as a result of the war.

Havious Green Humanitarian Foundation Is Accredited by the Government of Liberia as an NGO. We operate one health center, a vocational training institute for women and an academic junior high school. The HGHFI believes that the Church and other NGOs, PVOs must be committed to fight against AIDS. Research has shown  that 80% to 90% of the HIV/AIDS positives are infected through intercourse. It is therefore necessary that HIV/AIDS awareness programs be conducted. We therefore through our health services department offer HIV/AIDS education to our communities.

The Foundation has some specific tasks oriented areas:
o Spiritual Activities
o The Health Services Program
o The Academic Program

o The HIV/AIDS Program
o Relief Supplies Distribution Program
